St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX

In August of 2011, we had the great honor to celebrate the dedication of the newly constructed St. Martha Catholic Church in Kingwood, TX.  With discussions for the undertaking beginning over a year earlier, we followed this project from design to installation, culminating in the creation of numerous works of custom liturgical art and the completion of one of our largest commissions to date.

The most prominent project is the monumental 12’ x 12’ Welcoming Christ mural featured on the front façade of the new church.  Created from a design collaboration with parishioner Donna Rueby and composed of hand-crafted, glazed ceramic tiles and Venetian glass mosaic, the mural depicts Christ welcoming his people to the new church and includes elements such as deer and the old church tower, paying homage to the history of St. Martha’s parish.

Another important project commissioned for the new church was a tabernacle.  Standing 3’ tall, the new tabernacle is constructed in wood, brass and cast bronze.  The highlight of the new piece is relief panels depicting the Symbols of the Eucharist and the Lamb of God alternating on each of the four sides.

We also created several sculptures, including the suspended Corpus on the Cross and Stations of the Cross in the main sanctuary.  A relief depicting Christ’s Meeting with Sts. Martha, Mary & Lazarus and statues of the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph are also featured in the new church.  Each piece was hand-carved in linden wood and then colored lightly to create their unique appearance.
